From Cricket Dreams to Chronic Pain: How Injury Sparked a Passion for Recovery

For many Australians, sport isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way of life. For Dr. Brad, founder of Rogue Rehabilitation, that sport was cricket. From as early as he can remember, the bat, the ball, and the pitch were his world. He lived and breathed the game.

But at just 16 years old, everything changed.

The Injury That Stopped Everything

One morning, Brad woke up to what he describes as “molten lava running down my leg.” He had suffered two prolapsed discs in his back — an injury that didn’t just hurt physically, but tore him away from the thing he loved most.

“I had to give the game away. Cricket was my passion, and suddenly it was gone.”

Like so many athletes, Brad tried everything to get back. He went to physios, doctors, specialists. He tried Pilates, medications, and countless rehab strategies. But nothing seemed to work.

The Search for Answers

Where many would have given up, Brad became obsessed with finding a solution. He describes himself as an autodidact, self-taught, always learning, always researching.

“I remember cutting out sugar, gluten, alcohol, all the things that were making my inflammation worse. I tweaked the way I trained, changed how I lifted, and slowly pieced together a formula that finally got me moving again.”

This personal experiment turned into a life mission. Brad realised that recovery wasn’t just about the spine, the muscles, or the injury itself. It was about the whole body, nutrition, sleep, stress, mindset, and small, consistent changes.

From Player to Practitioner

Giving up cricket was painful, but it also planted the seed for Brad’s career. What started as a desperate search to fix his own back became the foundation of Rogue Rehabilitation.

Today, Brad uses the same principles that saved him to help others whether it’s someone with a simple ankle sprain or someone rebuilding their life after a serious accident.

“I know what it feels like to be in pain. I’ve been there. That’s why I’ll never stop searching for ways to help people get back to what they love.”

Why This Story Matters

Brad’s journey shows that rehab isn’t just about exercises or clinical treatments. It’s about resilience, curiosity, and never giving up.

While cricket dreams ended at 16, a new dream was born, one where Brad helps others chase their passions, free from pain.
